June 22, 2007 at 4:36 AM小猫猫， 我觉得你的想法真有趣。为什么？ 是这样，在别的评论你让中文播客博多‘中国人的看法的题目' 对不对？这个题目，跟对话是很普通的老百姓的看法。 如果你能了解为什么他们这样子想，你也可以多了解中国人。IMO Hi MingJai, 我觉得我了解你的评论，也不是我不同意。不过因为现在我住在中国我可以说，这种对话很普通的。我也不觉得是跟美国一样的racism。这里的文华真不一样。你想一想这里的power relationships and relationship to race, class and ethnicity. 如果你要compare, then the talk is more like caucasian wasps talking about how being half Asian or African-American makes for a smarter and better kid.

June 21, 2007 at 5:06 PM牙梦 - 有时候，比如说过三年做这种蒙一次，我的梦是我的牙丢了。在梦里面我也有梦，想了我起来了看自己的牙没了。人说这种梦有两种的意思，第一是有人死了，第二我做了错误。 。。。不过梦后觉得跟我的生活没有什么关系，可能我看了恶电影拍吧。

Yes, the best quiz for oneself is "posting"!!! Did YOU see my errors on the first pass? You should have if you 'studied' the podcast lesson really welllllll. ;p I dare others to type it out, zhuang, zhuan, zuan...which is it?! 转砖专次此词有又 yo'wazzz up!!

June 21, 2007 at 4:23 PM大阿姨， 对，就是我的意思。 About pidgin. I think pidgin is in effect a 'language' in that it also has a structure that has developed it's own rules and internal consistencies. In effect a person could tell if you were talking 'wrong or bad' pidgin to them. When I was first posting in hanzi, my writing was to say the least, kinda wacko. Not really English transfer, not really Chinese structure, a mishmash of rules, guesses, and just plain spitting out of words. 有意思对不对。我觉得我们学生们还应该别怕这个事情。Why？ because pidgin needs quite a lot of time and a community to develop it. The blips and hiccups the learners here experience are mostly a path of development in their interlanguage. IMO If you are in Singapore though, yes then there would be a whole set of particular challenges there, lah. :) Oh but you have good coconut rice, Hainan chicken, and curry to get one thru a day! Hi Henning, In a vain attempt to get back to the podcast topic :) I thought this sentence could be very useful in talking with people, "一听这些气象专有名词" 转名字 zhuan ming zi 有时候跟别人聊天的时候，突然他们开始用 专名字。。。

If I was a new learner to a second language, I'd read this article to help 'innoculate' myself against various approaches. And if I was a teacher, there's a lot of subtle wisdom in the article regarding the various approaches. First do no harm as they say.
