May 24, 2010 at 2:16 AMThere's also a ton of flexibility, particularly with regard to part of speech. Because changes in part of speech are not typically marked, and the limits of this flexibility take a while to get a handle on, it's quite a challenge initially.

I'd say in most cases 现实 (xiànshí) means "realistic" rather than "real."
