Just a few quick notes to address some of the comments here:

1. We will continue to publish 1 new Newbie per week (but not more than that). Yes, Newbies are our bread and butter.

2. "Advanced Media" is meant as a resource to help Advanced learners bridge the gap to native media sources. Once you can handle those, then you don't need us, and you have truly graduated. (加油!)

3. The release of the Cantonese show has been postponed, but not canceled!

profdogma,

No specific plans, but we're looking into ways to further personalize the service. Thanks for the suggestion!

pinkjeans,

我听到这一个对话觉得小胖很可怜。一定是他的妈妈以前让她习惯多吃 (I felt pity for the poor little fatty in the dialogue. It must be because the mum had allowed him to develop bad eating habits from small.)

Don't be so sure! Oftentimes Chinese parents try hard to discipline their children, but they also rely on the child's grandparents for "free daycare," and it's the grandparents that spoil the kids rotten!

(Although, to be fair, it's probably the parents at fault most of the time... I remember when I was little, my mom wouldn't let me eat sweet cereals, wouldn't let me snack, wouldn't let me drink soda except on special occasions, etc.)

Glad you all liked the lesson!

I think the growing obesity problem in China is not yet very apparent; perhaps the upper end of the wave of obesity is still only about 10 years old. It'll become more obvious in years to come.

I also wonder how much of a double standard there is. Are Chinese boys "allowed" to get fat, whereas girls are not?

Definitely a good first podcast for Clay.

I watched some Aussie rules while I was in Brisbane, but we drank VB.

pcmi,

To back up what Jenny says, we feel that it's only natural to have some degree of variation within the lessons, not only in difficulty, but also in dialogue length. There has been a "the higher the difficulty, the longer the dialogue" trend for some time, but it certainly doesn't need to be that way. That's why lately we're trying out some shorter Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, and Advanced lessons.

Ah, this topic feels a little too close to home... :)

Looks like some of our users are really hungry for more info on the HSK! We're much more communication-oriented than test-oriented, but we'll see if we can find some good links for you test-taking hopefuls.

tbone,

It was just a document stating that I was a resident of the state of Florida, and there were no records of me getting married. (Fortunately I didn't need this document from all 50 states, because technically I could have gotten married in any of them...)

Sorry, huasen... The creator of the series, Dave, has left Praxis Language and gone back to Beijing, and the other hosts of the series feel that it has pretty much run its course.

That doesn't mean it will never be back in the future, but in the meantime we're working on cool other things!
