theblindseer,

Oh, I'm prephetic for sure. One of my less-appreciated talents... :)

changye,

That's an interesting detail you've pointed out. I've noticed it too; that the "vice" is often dropped. In a university setting, you also call the administrative workers 老师, which always seemed a bit weird to me.

To answer your question, no, we would never call the Vice President anything but "Vice President." (Well, to his face, anyway... :) )

dammoon2008,

我在和他说 (wǒ zài hé tā shuō) is correct.

Thanks, anniedamian!

Chiang Mai is a great city, way smaller than Bangkok. I really enjoyed my stay there.

guolanusa,

Thanks for the input. Jenny is one vacation right now. Let's see what other native speakers have to say... Connie? Jiaojie?

changye, you asked:

Is it technically possible to automatically show an English translation / pinyin pop-up for all the Chinese characters used in comments here, just like in your posting, or entries in John's blog?  It's a question that has long been on my mind.

Yes, it is. We are looking at this possibility already, but first there are some rather pressing bugs that need to be sorted out...

carlosmentos,

You're right, and we're working on the search index this week. For now, a search for "tone" will show up many more lessons than a search for "tones."

As for the Safari character display issue, if you could send your OS and browser info along with a screenshot to chinesepod@gmail.com, we'd be happy to look into it.

alwingate,

Sorry, not trying to be cryptic!

too AdjAdj (tài Adj le)

One instance does not make a pattern, but it can surely be a good example of the pattern when taken in a larger context.

Boran's link gives good examples.
