August 22, 2017 at 2:50 AMHey there!
Thanks for the feedback. We are hoping to provide different styles for different learners. This is aimed towards people who might be looking for a more structured approach. If you like the classic format we have many in the newbie and elementary levels. I also recommend checking out the playlist section where we have many topic/grammar/level focused playlists.
But I hope that you'll find some of the lessons that are coming out in this format useful :)

February 10, 2017 at 5:21 AMHi Jinkeli,
Ah I see, I think I have a better understanding of where you are coming from. Let me give you a couple more examples :)
The phrase "Mum, I finished my homework" would not be translated as "妈,我做了” or "妈,我写了“. While these phrases are not grammatically incorrect, they are not quite full sentences (unless, as an answer). The listener would feel like something is missing. Rather here are some ways that might be expressed.
我写完(功课)了/我(功课)做完了
With the addition of the wan 完, the listener will clearly know that you have completed the task.
Let's look at the "我吃了 wo3 chi1 le", again this is not grammatically incorrect and of course you can use it. At home, when speaking to our close friends and family, the context of the conversation is usually very clear and no further information is needed. But if said to another, the listener would feel there was something missing.
If Gwilym said to me ”我吃了“, I'd feel a little confused, I would wanna know if he is telling me this because he's finished eating something or trying to tell me that he ate something. So I might ask "你吃了什么?“ or maybe "你是吃完了嗎?"
So some simple ways to make the sentence more complete might be:
我吃完了 /我吃饱了 / 我吃了饭了 / 我吃了一碗面了 all of these final le 了s will be covered in the next video :)
Once I hear the above, I'd be like "ah, ha, I see". You're telling me you've finished with your meal, I'm full, I finished my meal, or I finished a bowl of noodles.
The point that we tried to get across was that adding a 了 le behind a verb does not make a full sentence, further info will be needed. This further information does need to be "formal", in many cases it might just be a character or two to give the listener a better cue of why you are saying what you are saying and how they can respond.
What we forgot to mention (SORRY GUYS! maybe we can make a follow up after all of them have gone out, and we can collection some questions) is that a lot of beginners will use phrases like...
I did - 我做了
I wrote - 我写了
I went - 我去了
I ate - 我吃了
...when talking about things they did. When they might wanna say ...
我做过了 / 我做过两遍了
我写完了 / 我写完功课了
我去过了 /我去过咖啡店了
我吃完了 /我吃了饭了
but these involved past experience markers such as 过 guo, or resultative compliments like 完 wan. So we were worried that that would further complicate things. (cry cry)
Nonetheless, we wanna know what you are finding difficult or strange and maybe we can make an additional video.
Hope that clarifies things a bit and I think the next vid will make more sense of the the above examples. Or I have just confused you all. Hahaha. This is a tricky topic, so keep at it with us for the next two

February 8, 2017 at 1:54 AMAre you answering a question from your teacher? If so, like in the video. You can use it for answering questions.
If you aren't answering a question, there must be a reason why you are telling me that you have finished your homework. Best to clarify that reason. Have you done it ahead of time? did finish it quickly? Was there a lot of it? etc.
Actually, I think the next video might answer part of your question. So keep an eye out for that next Tuesday.
