Mister Xia,

Yes, I can recommend it. There's the book itself (in two volumes), plus there's an exercise book (in two volumes) with brief practice tests that go along with each chapter. All 4 books each include a CD. So, the first volume is 2 books with 2 CDs (main textbook, plus practice tests), and there's a second volume also with 2 books and 2 CDs. If you get all of it, it's 40 lessons.

I've completed the first chapter in both the main text and in the workbook. I'm actually working through it with Qiu Yunan, a great teacher I found through italki. He works for Berlitz in Singapore, and clearly understands how tests work. Usually teachers like him cost a fortune, but his rate is quite reasonable.

The material was written this way: "We've got 2,500 words to teach, so let's split them up among 40 chapters, and write texts to fit the words." That's great for covering a word list, but terrible for good writing, so don't expect anything as entertaining as Adventures of an Andy Lau Fan on Taobao.

But, for what it is, it's quite good. It seems to have the reputation of being the best material out there designed specifically for HSK prep, and that could very well be the case.
