Posted on: Can Your Kid Speak Yet?
November 6, 2020 at 11:08 PMHello, this is a very good question! 可以 not only can mean "can; be able to", it also can be used to indicate possibility, and you would notice that it usually exists in sentences about the future. Such as in this sentence, “那应该很快就可以说话了”, you can interpret it as "Then he should probably speak very soon". I hope this helps!

November 6, 2020 at 10:56 PMHello, you're totally right! In these two expansion sentences, "我交了2000块押金后,那个房东就跑了。" and "预订酒店时要不要交押金?", 交 means "to turn over sth.", and it definitely has nothing to do with sex! We actually check every meaning of the word manually, so I think this one fell through the cracks. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, you have a very good eye!

November 5, 2020 at 2:54 PMHello Earls, I understand your frustration. We have been working very hard to complete the lessons in post-production during this difficult time, but due to the pandemic, everything is interrupted and slowed down, our business included. I wish I could tell you when we'll be back to our usual publishing schedule, but for now I can only kindly ask for your patience, and we'll update you as soon as possible.

November 3, 2020 at 5:55 PMHello, that's a very good question! This question makes sense with or without the "吗" at the end. If you omit the 吗, it has a bit of rhetorical sense in it, and it even sounds aggressive, which in this context is more fitting. In comparison, 还没送吗 sounds more polite and gentle. Hope this clears it up!

November 1, 2020 at 4:15 PMHi Ray, if you want to say "Chinese food is not all good", you can say 中国菜不全都是好吃的。
This is because 好吃 is an adjective, therefore you have to use the 是...的 structure. A small recap: When it's a noun or an adjective, you need to use 是...的 structure, and if it's a verb, you don't have to use it, just simply add 不全都 in the sentence. Hope this helps!

October 31, 2020 at 4:03 PMGood question! 新来的 in this case means "new-coming", and it is commonly used for new employees to say that on the first day of work. But it's not grammatically incorrect to omit it, it just sounds more natural this way.
