How do I learn the Chinese symbols on this website?

Hey, what do you mean? Do you mean, how do you read Chinese characters? Or are you seeing random symbols that don't look like Chinese?

practice, practice, practice..... ;)

When you go with your mouse cursor over a charcter, it shows you the english translation. (not when somebody has written a post in chinese characters, but in a lesson dialouge or in the expansion section).

In the tools section you can learn the characters with the writing practice tool.
