A different (possibly worse) problem with the mobile site

June 13, 2010 at 01:16 AM posted in General DiscussionI can't for the life of my log into the mobile site from my cell. Every time I try, it says, "Failed to connect to the Internet." I don't have a fancy 3G thingamabob doohickey cell, so I always attributed the problem to that. This is the thing, I can log into the regular site on my phone every time. Surely it should be the other way around? Anybody got any suggestions? If it helps, I own a Nokia 2700c, and I live in Shanghai. To be clear, I can open m.chinesepod.com, but I can't log in.

The new version seems to work better than the old one. Thanks for that. There is one inconvenient aspect, though. When using my cell phone, I never have to log in to the regular website. My cell always remembers me. However, every time I want to use the mobile site, I have to enter in my username and password. Doing this each time with a cell phone keypad is just a bit too slow. Does this arise from your design or my cell? I guess what I really mean is, can anything be done about this?

This problem is only on my cell phone. I use opera. I don't know how to know the version. Is m.chinesepod.com up and running? I will give it a shot.

Hi xiaophil, we have recently launched a new m.chinesepod.com site. Can you tell us the internet browser you are using on your mobile phone? It is probably a browser compatibility issue that is causing this problem.

Okay. Is there anything happening with this? I still can log in fine in the regular website, but I cannot log into the mobile site. It would be handy for me to log into the mobile site as I cannot leave comments on the regular site when using my phone. It also just strikes me as odd that I can use my phone to log into the regular site, but the same cannot be said for the mobile site.
Another question. What is your policy for updating the customers who are having technical problems with the site? From where I'm sitting, it doesn't appear that you guys have done anything to address this problem.

Thanks Peter, and by the way, I would appreciate any help getting this working as in the coming months I will have less time to be in front of the computer.

Hi xiaophil, thank you for notifying us of this problem. This is a compatibility issue with the iPhone browser. Our website is not design for browsing via a mobile device. I have notified our tech team of this problem.

Thanks for responding, Peter. Well, I do use www.chinesepod.com, and yes, I can log on, but it however comes with its own problems. Using the main website, I can reply to other poddies, but I cannot leave a fresh comment, i.e start a new thread. Also, if I reply and the reply is longer than two sentences, typically it disappears into the void after hitting the reply button. Finally, I would assume that using m.chinesepod.com would be cheaper in China, as www.chinesepod.com would take longer to load (at least I assume so).

Can you tell me if you are browsing m.chinesepod.com or chinesepod.com. I would recommend browsing chinesepod.com instead of our mobile site because it is more stable.

Hey, now that it seems there is new attention being placed on repairing website problems, can someone please take a look at this? I would like to use the mobile site on my phone but can't at all. I have a Nokia 2700c and use the standard Opera that comes with it. Thanks.

I might add that I can log in fine when using my computer, but I have not even once successfully logged into the site using my cell. I used Opera Mini, by the way.
