Unable to attach 'tags'

June 10, 2010 at 06:01 AM posted in General DiscussionWhen making a post using the button designed for the purpose, there is no facility to add tags. You can only add tags (as far as I can see) if you go in to EDIT the post. This has got to be a bug. :) Editing is a pain too, but maybe that is a separate post.

I'm with Bodawei here. Posting recently has become more work and less logical. The search functions currently not working well (but they never really were, were they ... ?) is no reason to take away our ability to add tags to our posts in the meantime! It makes little sense to me.

Sorry Catherine, this is not clear to me - why take something down that DOES work? I accept your point that the search function could be improved (in Lessons for example), but the rest does not make sense. Could you please answer my question rather than just stating policy? It is kind of stressful in the current climate in which users don't feel that they are being heard. This is not about work load and priorities; the function worked and then you found some scarce resources to remove that function. Why?? Did someone ask for it to be removed?

Yes tags would play a role in the advanced search function. We felt that until we improve search options (making better use of tags, among other data) that we would hide the add tags function. Improving the search functionality on the site is very important to us, but to be clear about the timeline, we will not be rolled out until some other projects are completed. For now we are focusing on groups, community, and improving dashboard usability.

To elaborate - the tags I have put into my Signs group for example work fine. If you are in one category and you click the link for 'Signs' you are taken to a list of posts which have been tagged 'Signs‘。
But I note that I can no longer go in and add tags - is this because you asked the tech team to 'take the add tags box down from the edit post page'? If so, I don't follow your reasoning - the tags were working fine.

This again blends well with my comments on the future grammar guide. The search engine does not work very well and could definitly use some improvements!!! Looking forward to it!!

What do you mean by 'there was no way to search by tags'? What feature is superfluous exactly?
而且, there was quite a bit of discussion not too long ago about the Search function and John indicated that this would be addressed soon. Would tags play any role in an improved Search function?

June 10, 2010 at 07:14 AMYes this is a problem. I have asked the tech. team to take the add tags box down from the edit post page. This was done in the add post page some time ago. We felt that since there was no way to search by tags, that this feature was superfluous, and would be best left out until a future date when it brought a more obvious benefit to our users.
