Zero to Hero on ChinesePod

So I came back to work on Monday after having been in Turkey for 8 days. That meant My "Active User" score went down to ZERO. (Each point you get only lasts a week.) Yet, over the course of the week, I have experienced a meteoric rise to the #1 "Most Active User" position.

Am I amazing or what? I'm commenting like it's my job. (Hmmm, wait a minute...)

I'd like to thank Bazza, Art, Pulosm, Kyle, Sputnik, Henning, and all the other users that have helped me to get where I am today. You guys are great.

Remember: if I can do it, you can too!

Henning,

We really do appreciate your efforts with that, btw. Once we get the technical foundation done, we'll be using it to jump back into the expansion of Grammar Guide content.

Hey, Bazza

You must be in Shanghai by now. Quick, get started climbing Mount MAU. I bet you can reach the summit writing all about your visit! And, we want pictures : )

There should actually be two parallel MAU (Most active users) lists, one for Admins and another one for the rest of us ;-)

I am staying on the top ranks by nourishing my lonesome Grammar Point thread.

But as my CPod-Banter-Excel-Grammar-Guide approaches beta I just can't stop. Still need to fill some holes, enrich the data with additional links, and add additional search keys...

Bazza,

I've been busy and dropped off the list too...

I guess I'm back down to ZERO.

But I'll be back!

Thanks. I'll probably just stay in Shanghai, unless it's easy to go a day trip to Beijing or Xi'an.

Bazza, all the best for your trip! I hope you get the chance to dine a lot! Do you also visit other cities besides Shanghai? E.g. Beijing?

Does anyone remember the Chinesepod wiki?

It is still there (http://wiki.chinesepod.com/index.php?title=Main_Page) and (still) has Ken, Jenny and Aric on it's title page.

It looks like the latest entries date back to September 2006.

And Lantian's transcript initiative looks slightly odd, too.

AZERDocMom,

Try this link:

http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Achinesepod.com%2Fconnections%2Fviewpost%2F+AZERDocMom&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t

Note what's in the search box after the page loads.

Anne,

You're right. It's part of the plan to make the Conversations searchable.

The forum definitely remains a valuable resource.

It's possible to search it via google.

could CPod not make this place searchable too?

Profile picture

I find this strange, actually. The forum is such a good a place to post many many things (and the forum is searchable!) But since this hero list is active, many posts, that would have gone to the forum before, get lost here... I'll never ever find them. I feel much more like a hero, when someone has a question right now and finds my answer I posted six months ago.

To get me right, please have fun here. But don't forget about the excellent forum, if you have any questions or answers worth to be accessed by the "big brain" for more than a couple of days.

(Am I getting old?)

Oh, it's like heroin... you're addicted after the first hit. I made on the list a while back, and I've been having trouble sleeping since I fell off.

John,

You can thank me by tossing an unbiased coin the next time you have to select between me and someone else for coming up with the correct Movie Madness answer. ;-)

Boy, am I glad Amber's coming back next week. :-)

Have a terrific weekend.

It doesn't help when you have an addictive personality.

Hey, speaking of #1's, version 2 of CPod had a list of the Top 50 memory / concentration game players. Why did that disappear with V3? That thing rocked.

wildyaks, It's a fleeting kind of glory. I likely will fall from #1 over the weekend. Still, if you're never been #1 on the MAU list, YOU HAVEN'T LIVED! :)

Well, Kyle, why am I not surprised?

It becomes addictive, doesn't it, to see one's name on that list. My friends, who are constantly making fun of my involvement in the Cpod community, are now cheering me on to try for #1. But I have a life to live...

Will you have a Chinesepod (Super-) Hero Cape as a give-away for the highest climber in 2007 or something? But refrain from jumping of buildings or getting into a fight with the EVIL ONES!

The ultimate hero position is #5.

But it is unbelievable hard to hold.

sparechange,

Ummm, I don't know what you're talking about...

Surely you're aware of my squeaky clean record of never "tricking" people into adding to my MAU score... :D

As for plane tickets, NO, definitely NOT free. I paid more for those tickets to Turkey than I've ever paid for tickets to ANYWHERE in my LIFE. But it's really good to get out of China during the National Day holiday, when every interesting place becomes absolutely PACKED with tourists...

Doesn't every response to this thread contribute to your longevity in the Active User list?

It's ok, your secret's safe with me...and the rest of the free world.

So what I want to know is are they handing out free plane tickets with the travel brochures in Shanghai? You've been to Turkey, Amber went to Mexico...
