So this is the final translation I came up with for my paper which seems to be more or less the translation. 好那部当兵，好铁不打钉。 Reading military texts this is quoted so much in English but I am happy I finally found it in Chinese. The quote is attributed to “过去的人" so it really didn't help me there. I think I will site it as an ancient saying and leave it at that.

oh yea and the reason she posted was because I challenged her to find the translation and she couldn't. If you look for the quote is ubiquitous and attributed to Confucius in English. In Chinese however it seems to now be there. This is how the whole thing has come about.
