Pete and xiaohu, I'm here to learn from y'all. 我快要 chew on some Dial soap 了. The caliber of the CPod users is so high, I should work to maintain the high level of the conversations, as does changye 老师, for example. But I like "dude"... It's so California!

Hi misterjess,
Don't worry, I think that being banned is not a big deal for Auntie68. I hear that she is recently busy learning classical Chinese on her own terms and translating an Italian classic with her friends. Of course, I miss her too!

Hi hwangd01
Don't worry, live and learn. Sailors and truckdrivers have been known to blush to hear me speak English or Chinese. I personally draw a clear distinction between profanity that shows annoyance or criticizes hypocrisy and incompetence, and the kind that is just hateful and demeaning. I'm a big fan of the first, and dislike the second.
But the tone of the podcasts and boards should be purely high-minded. We're all scholars here, folks!

I apologize for my debasing remarks earlier. Since I'm a relative newbie in Chinese, I had no idea of the degree of vulgarity of 狗屎 in Chinese. I thought it would be like B.S., which is pretty commonplace in the US.

It's very hard to believe that Chinesepod doesn't ban paganfarmer and delete its comments and threads. Looks like Cpod admins are much more broad-minded than I thought before, which is not necessarily bad news for me.

Well, you guys are fast.
But let's keep the conversation clean, everybody. Don't get down in the mud with the pig farmer.

Hi hwangd01,
notice the complete lack of mis-spelled words.
狗屎is correct.

Hi hwangd01
paganfarmer doesn't deserve this much attention;-) Any time that you spend thinking about him/her/it is time that you can't spend enjoying Chinese.
The presence of a few knuckleheads on the boards is the price we all pay for keeping the conversation free-flowing and fresh.
We don't worry too much about people who criticise CPod or make fools of themselves. But direct attacks on anybody, or spam, will be deleted faster than you can say Jack Robinson.

Paganfarmer is full of 狗屎. I read the following two statements from Paganfarmer, and they could not possibly be written by the same person. Or they could be written by a fluent English speaker who is pretending to be a pig farmer's daughter in a rural place in China.

the three-letter-word really does the trick! good job guys! i bet we're gonna get like a few gajillion hits here soon. one of the most ridiculous things to do is to over-generalise people's sexual preferences. some like sex, some no like sex, ma...in any case it's their bloody business, we're here to learn the beautiful sounds of putonghua. unbelievable?
The first is just horrendously bad English, meant to make people believe he/she is a country bumpkin in China. The second is full of English idiomatic expressions and words that a poor girl from a rural village in China could not possibly know - "gonna get like," "gajillion," and "hits". Oops! She/he must be some sort of saboteur. I'm pretty sure he/she will be promoting another Chinese learning site soon.

安德森哥们儿:
That's an amazing idea! Why don't we meet Monday nights at 7:00 PM sharp, at the ABC Cafe at the corner of Garfield Ave and Garvey in the city of Monterey Park CA!
Why, this could be an ongoing thing between Los Angeles C-Pod users...in fact...why don't we warmly welcome all other Los Angeles based C-pod users to join our study group! (...Monday nights at 7:00 PM at the ABC Cafe in Monterey Park California...)
What a brilliant idea...why didn't I think of that?

It's not a problem. 没关系.
Actually in Chinese I really don't like to swear at all, so I never learned most curse words or dirty language. My good friend and former Mandarin student actually taught me quite a few nasty words and phrases. I didn't know how offensive they were until I said them in the presence of Chinese people and they were taken back wiht surprise saying, "啊,你千万千万别在中国人的面前说这种话。非常非常不礼貌!"
Just like Pete said, we live and learn.
