Subscription auto-renew?
sarah179
June 07, 2014 at 12:22 PM posted in General DiscussionI noticed on the dashboard screen below my profile it says 'Your subscription will renew on [date]'. I thought it used to say 'end' or something similar. Does this mean that when the subscription expires Chinespod will automatically debit my card for a new subscription? If that's the case, where is the setting that controls it?
Thanks

Hi all,
The problem should be fixed now, can you please check your account?
Let me know if you are still facing this problem.
Thank you,
Armel

If you go to My Account/Payments there is an option to cancel your renewal.

Hi Sean
I raised this issue earlier too, but it seems you are misunderstanding the problem. The problem seems to be that on each user's homepage, they get a message saying that "their subscription will renew on...". We are getting this message even if it is NOT TRUE and our subscription will NOT renew. In other words, your system is MISINFORMING us - telling us something that is NOT CORRECT. This is leading to a lot of CONFUSED users who think they are going to be billed again but can find no way to cancel recurring billing.
You need to CHANGE THE SYSTEM so that it tells users the correct information about their billing status.
Sorry for all the CAPITALS. Just trying to make sure you are aware of the problem.

Hi Mike,
As I stated earlier, you will not be rebilled again. I have checked on our internal system and you will not be billed again.

Sean - Have you completely misunderstood? (Or am I thick)
You have just confirmed that I will not be renewed automatically yet my home page says my subscription will be renewed! Do you not see that this is incorrect/ confusing?

Hi Mike,
We have a renewing subscription so we like to inform as such.

Thanks Sean. It must have been someone else. Wouldn't it be better to change the words on my home page from "Your subscription will be renewed on ..." to "Your subscription will expire on ..."?

Hi Mike, I recall us speaking, but maybe it was another member. No you will not be renewed automatically.

My home page says my subscription with renew on a future date. When I go to Account/Payments there is no option to cancel anything, just a list of payments.
On another thread you asked me to email you and you would phone me. I did but you did not.
I am thus asking you again to assure me that you will not automatically renew my subscription as you did last time against my will.

Apparently you now have to beg to have your subscription cancelled.
I wonder how many people have been trapped into paying for a new subscription because they assumed that they needed to renew the subscription themselves. This deception is the new CPod way.

Having the same issue here, I am pretty sure that last time I paid for premium I did not authorize auto-renewal since it was not even an option afaik.

July 05, 2014 at 10:35 AMIt looks like the issue has been resolved on mine, although it took a long time to actually find the date. No mention of subscriptions expiring/renewing on the payments page, it's now on the dashboard but instead of conveniently in the top right corner like it used to be, it's in a tiny section below all the bookmarked lessons and all the new discussions.
So, good it's sorted, bad the usability has got deteriorated.
