New version is out, with cool new functions: one-click all lesson files download (finally catching up with openlanguage app), Qingwen now labeled, and a few others.
Remaining problems from previous versions: still takes no less than 20 seconds to open a lesson, even if all lesson files have finished downloading. Seriously, for a 5 minute Qingwen, this is wasting 10% of the time doing exactly nothing.
Still can't filter by culture shows in the library, making it extremely difficult to find old Qingwens (even more so while driving in china here)

I installed this on my phone, and would like to know if there is any way to roll back to the previous version, (which did actually seem to work quite well for me.) I saw the praises for this version and assumed this one must be the bomb, but I am unable to download a lesson, just get a 'download error' message every time. I should have remembered 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it. *sigh*

Good to hear. The issues were a hangover from v1.4, which deleting cleared out. You can update future releases as usual from now.

Hi Martin, thanks very much for your support on this, I tried your suggestion and the app now seems to be working normally, much obliged!

I can confirm we test on older devices up to lowest os we support -iOS5.
There is a known issues with "Download Error" which appears every once in a while. It can be fixed via pressing "Download all" -> "Cancel" -> "Delete" for the problem lesson.
Tal:
My recommendation to you would be delete and reinstall the app. If you haven't done this since version 1.4/1.5 I am confident this will resolve your issues. Please be aware, deleting the app will clear your downloaded lessons though.

I have a pretty good connection, I'll give that a try, cheers. (I'll need to reinstall iTunes first., I don't actually have the old version on my computer, is that going to be a problem?) Well in my case it's now impossible to download the lesson. The other bits and pieces down OK, but every single time the lesson itself just produces an error message after waiting for a long time. My guess is its because I'm still using an older version of the iPhone software on the phone, I doubt very much that the CPod developers checked to make sure their new baby would work with older versions, and I should have foreseen that really. Oh well.

If you have the previous version on your computer in iTunes I think you can delete the current version from your phone and then install the older version from your computer via a connection cable. I did get those download error messages from time to time, but overall seems to be an improvement. How is your Internet connection quality?

Loving the new features thanks guys.
Really cool.
Though i never like to complain is there something in the works about the constant crashing.
Do you guys know what i mean? Like when you load a lesson and go to the dialogue a lot of times when you click on the translation button it crashes. But always the second time its ok.
Good stuff guys. Lovin it.

First I have heard of this error.
This crash is only when using the translate within Dialogue section or elsewhere? Is this every lesson or just some?
Please provide you devise and iOS version and I'll look into this.

Wow, how long has this group been here... lol?
If the green dot is showing, a lesson should take less then 2 seconds to open as all information is cached locally.
The one exception to this is if the "Download All" has just finished. The green dot will appear but if you click study lesson and the library hasn't been refreshed it will load from online. This bug will be fixed in next version. To speed things up for now, after downloading all, click the library refresh button in top right, then the lesson will open directly from cache.
If there is no green dot it should load within around 3 - 15 seconds. Speed will be top priority for the following versions now we have offline mode successfully functioning.
Podster: The files downloaded are the 3 main files and the associated lesson files such as dialogue/grammar/expansion sentences and vocab words.

Filter works on our side - you have to press the filter button again once you've changed your slider settings to save and sync back to server
eg:
Click Filter -> Set all 3 to Off -> Click Filter again - should give the message saving then display 0 items.
Click Filter -> Set all 3 to On -> Click Filter again - should give the message saving then display all items.

Okay, I've tested it again during the worst offending time -- monday morning commute. It worked okay, using 3G, about 2 seconds as promised. This is using "Self-study" rather than the "Library", though. Tested on airplane mode -- same result.
Have a new problem -- the Self-study lesson list now ignores all filter settings. Bookmarked / subscribed / Include studied -- always produce the same result, the lesson list does not change. I can confirm on the website that some are subscribed, some are bookmarked, and half are studied, but the iOS app ignores all of that.

So to get this straight - if you go to library, find a lesson with a green dot (refresh library page here just to be safe) and select that lesson it takes 20+ seconds to load?
Can you do this first in offline and then in 3g to let me know what sort of times your getting.

It's good to know that lessons should open within 2 seconds, but all of my lessons open in 20 to 30 seconds when I want to study. after lesson and dialog have been downloaded and all text is already cached locally. I've never seen a lesson open in 2 seconds on 3G in shanghai. Sometimes when on wifi it can happen faster, but that's not when I study, so don't have a lot of data there.

I wondered too what the app is doing for 20 seconds while it says "loading" when I have chosen a lesson for which all the files are already on my mobile device. Also, I am not clear what the app is doing when I select "download all files". It downloads 50 ~ 60 files. Which ones? I thought we were just going to get a feature to download lesson+dialog+review (3 files) for a single lesson.

September 11, 2013 at 12:21 AMTried to open a previosly loaded and studied lesson, in Self-Study. Waited about 30 seconds, then said "you need an active subscription to study this lesson". Tried a couple of minutes later, no problem. Can this be fixed?
