[Song] Su Shi
Song Dynasty literati Su Shi's ci poem 'The Charm of the Courtesan Niannu' is representative of the bold and unconstrained ci faction, and is also called 'Recalling the Past on the Red Cliffs'. The first section uses the landscape to set the tone, from the gurgling flow of the river we think of the historical figures who have disappeared in the river of time. It is said that the red cliffs were the site of an ancient battle during the Three Kingdoms Period. At that time Zhou Yu triumphed from a position of weakness here, forcing the Cao Wei to retreat and ensuring the continuance of the triumvirate states.
No problem, let's first take a look at the words. The author was Su Shi, also known as Su Dongpo. On the Mid-Autumn Festival of 1076 he got very drunk, so he made use of the high spirits the drink gave him to write down this ci poem. Su Shi's writing style is famous for its unrestrained style.
That's so creative, the style of the unrestrained school is more optimistic and sanguine, so this ci poem reflects this spirit. Su Shi incorporates the joys and sorrows of the world into the search for a philosophical theory of life in the universe. Although there are partings and sorrow, there is also hope and longing for life.
This line is indeed a classic, Su Shi was also indeed a master. With just a few words he can capture the logic of the world and the universe, using the phases of the moon as a metaphor for the meeting and parting in the world. Although you can't have everything, you can come to a good compromise.
Don't even start. There are over one hundred scenic spots at the West Lake. Enough for us to spend several days visiting. It's not just the scenery that is fantastic at West Lake though, the cultural milieu here is also quite rich. Among them the most famous are the lines of poetry on the West Lake left behind by Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi and Song Dynasty poet Su Shi.
The poem by Su Shi is even more etched into our memory. The most classic lines are: "The West Lake is like the Chinese beauty Xi Shi, Always looking quite natural whether in light or heavy makeup."
The West Lake is just like a beautiful woman, yes, I hear the West Lake still has another famous scenic spot called Su Causeway, built by Su Shi. That's how the Su Causeway got famous.
Talking of Su Shi, or of Su Dongpo, as he's also known, I've thought of a famous dish from the West Lake area, "Dongpo" stir-fried pork. This dish belongs to the Zhejiang-Jiangsu cuisine family, thin-skinned tender pork, a bright red color, just thinking of it makes me drool.
