People nowadays live in an ever more competitive environment, putting a lot of pressure from criticism, some people fear that they won't be able to measure up, so they choose to procrastinate, because procrastination gives them back a sense of control, so that even if they fail in the end, they can offer up an explanation to themselves and to others, an exit strategy.
