这一段(一个男人的)独白我也很喜欢。像往常一样,史蒂夫·马丁的表演不仅很潇洒,而且流露出一些伤感的情调。

Yes these were good questions (+ attempts to answer them). Love it when you guys bring closure to these with a QW!

Thanks Kimiik, good to get clarification from a native speaker. You mean characters as in hanzi, right?

Hi Toianw, I took French in school (only a total of 10 years ...), have never spoken it unfortunately ... My native language is Japanese, and I grew up speaking English too. I've been learning Mandarin for a few years now. That's all!

Glad you found it helpful. I went over this lesson quite a few times myself!

Point taken about recognizing people.

认识 is about familiarity (well, and I'm still going to say recognition really), as you explain. If you don't 认识, the mention or look of something means nothing to you. It's quite like the French word connaitre (as opposed to savoir). I started writing that but decided not to, because I suspect connaitre might not be applicable to characters in that way, and didn't want to confuse.

Hi Jane, 知道 zhīdao is having knowledge, 认识 rènshi is recognition. We recognize characters.

Bodawei while you are certainly considerably younger than my actual (late) father, I imagine you could be just old enough to have fathered a child as old as me. That would make you ancient, haha, but anyway you don't seem like an old person. You don't ever sound as tired as I feel sometimes. You don't sound jaded.

Oh but that sounds like you're not happy now. Well, I know what you mean.

How old are these women? I always want to know people's approximate ages, most of all when it's an account like "a teacher of mine from the mainland always says ...". How old is the person saying that? It's important to me.

Thanks as always for bringing your knowledge to this Tingyun.

more personal connection to the status (location, time, etc)--ah yes, that's what I wanted to say.
