February 20, 2011 at 9:47 AMHi, did you mean to ask about 吃苦? That's not really equivalent to swallowing a bitter pill. 吃苦 is taking the trials or hardships dealt you in life, enduring them. When a young job candidate tells his potential employer 我能吃苦, I think that's like how in English we would assure them, "I'm not afraid of hard work". I'm guessing it's not too rare these days for young college graduates to go out into the real working world only to find they can't bear it, and just quit. It happens in Japan anyway.
吃亏 is also different from swallowing a bitter pill. The first definition my dictionary gives is to take a loss (like John says in the podcast); to come out the loser; to be a sucker. The second definition, which doesn't get mention in the podcast is, like ejrunge says, to be at a disadvantage in something.

The MW in the expansion sentence is for 颜色, not 衣服. Let's say this sentence specified the color then--for instance "You don't look good in blue (colored) clothing"--instead of "You don't look good in this color of clothing". That would be 你不适合穿蓝色的衣服. Color is specified. But there's no MW in the sentence, because it's a general comment on how the person looks wearing blue. Clothing here is general (the English translation should help clue us in here actually, because "clothing" is a non-specific word). Actually, I think it's better to think of this sentence as we would normally say something like this to a friend in English--"this color doesn't really suit you", "that color makes you look dull" or whatever. There's no 衣服 in such a sentence. Because it's about the color.
Yes I know the speaker of the expansion sentence is looking at something specific of 这个颜色 as he speaks, but he's saying "this color in general doesn't suit you". It's not the particular item being looked at then that's being talked about at all, but the color.
I'm not too good at economizing with words, or clarifying. Does this help? If not maybe someone else can butt in for us here!

February 19, 2011 at 7:58 AMHi Chris, this is 这个颜色--this color. The MW here is for "color". "Clothing" here is general, unlike a specified item of clothing, so it wouldn't have a MW.
Whereas 这件白色的衬衫 is "this white shirt". I'm only using "shirt" for this example because 衬衫 is a more specific word than 衣服 and therefore a bit easier to translate into English. Of course you could say 这件白色的衣服. The English translation might be "this white outfit", but you wouldn't know for sure, if 衣服 here is referring to an outfit, a top, or what.

February 14, 2011 at 8:17 AMBaba 痴漢（行為）chikan (koui) is a more general term for such acts than just stealth (or not) groping. It also includes springing such nasty surprises as saying dirty things, or exposing oneself, to the "target", I think also ogling. Of course all unwanted physical contact, pressing up against the other etc., not just using your hands.

澳大利亚我十几年前去过两次，都是到悉尼出差的。很可惜，第二次的三个星期一直过得不太开心。当然原因和悉尼没有关系，而是因为工作从开始不顺利，每天都发生各种的问题。好在我们住的饭店在皇家植物园的对面，离那只很壮观的白帆船（歌剧院）走路只要十分钟左右。早饭之前去过散散步，散散闷儿，鼓励自己面对那一天的任务。
说真话，我没听过《我不喜欢星期一》这首歌曲！应该是因为我们（日本）的这个年代，上学的时候关注的是 American Top 40 之类的，都是在美国很红的歌手和乐队。
说到乐队的中文名字，看起来有好多。除了“大鼠的博姆敦”和“布姆镇鼠”之外，网络上还有人写成“博姆敦大鼠”、“新兴城市鼠”、“博姆敦鼠”、“大鼠的新兴都市”。不知道有官方的一个没有。
