April 29, 2008 at 3:53 PMLOVE this episode! I love breaking down different accents and analyzing them. I knew a Taiwanese woman who heard me speaking Chinese with my Beijing accent (like all foreigners learning Chinese, we learn the Beijing influenced accent), and said I should go to Taibei to learn my Mandarin because the Taiwanese accent is more "elegant". She told me that the Chinese people regard the Beijing accent in the same way that Americans think of people from Texas or Oklahoma. So basically she was saying that the Chinese people think of Beijingers as the HICKS of China! I personally think the Northern accent has more character than the Southern accent. Anyone else have an opinion?

April 6, 2008 at 11:31 PMDuring the early part of this decade Detroit has getting pretty fashionable in entertainment circles, with M&M, Pink, the movie 8 Mile, The Detroit Pistons winning the NBA championship in 04, etc. I think the biggest problem with the city as a whole, and why the economy is so bad, is because the Big 3 American Car manufacturers are clinging to their old, outmoded methods of doing business. They refuse to modernize and make reliable cars like Japanese manufacturers, they have fallen on hard times. The fall of the Big 3 has turned the Motor city into the city without a motor. It's going to take a major unification of the people of Detroit to turn this around. By the way, speaking of cars, I think a great lesson topic would be the rise of Chinese car manufacturers such as 沈阳的中华汽车，and how their produts stack up next to Japanese and American cars, and also the Chinese peoples attitude toward their own domestically produced automobiles.

March 17, 2008 at 7:25 PMSomething I wanted to bring up a long time ago but kept forgetting. In the lesson you talk about the word for "download", which you say is "definitely" pronounced as Xia4 Zai3 (3rd tone "zai"), however many Chinese people, including my old professor and private tutor have all confirmed the "correct" tone of the word 载 to be 4th tone, when the word carries the meaning of load it's pronounced 4th tone "zai". I know a lot of Chinese people say "xia4 zai3", but isn't this the same phenomenon as the Chinese people's habit of saying yi1 hui3 (er) instead of the textbook yi1 hui4 (er)? Essentially aren't both ways correct by but 下4 载4 being the most correct?

March 2, 2008 at 5:51 AM对于变性人的问题， 说实在我思绪混乱。 一方面， 人类的生活应该有自由另一方面， 变性人不自然。 我啊， 就没办法了解要变性的感觉从哪里起源并不知道为什么变性人说， “上帝创造我的时候就搞错了， 我本质就是女人！” （或男人） 神不是完美吗？ 神怎么可能搞错呢？ 为什么要怨神？ 其实我看河莉秀的时就觉得她很养眼可是从某一些角度， 一看她就知道她原来是男人， 比如看她和老公的合影她的头比老公的大。 真女人的头不是比男人小吗? 河莉秀的容貌中有一些男子汉气概的方面。 从某些角度她的外貌又性感又女人的不过从另一些角度看，她的面容就像一个画化妆成女的样子的男孩一样. 因此我看河莉秀或听她的男子汉气概地声音就感觉到相当的别扭。 当然我们都，“应该透过表面看到内在,更注重一个人的内心”不说， 而河莉秀肯定心理很善良。 我看过她的很多节目， 我也觉得她是个很有决心的艺术家而且她唱歌唱得很好听. 当然她容忍了小心眼人的歧视和偏见. 不过我本人不觉得她心里是百分之百女人, 我觉得男人就是男人女人就是女人而上帝不可能搞错. 再说我觉得变性人心里有问题. 不过我佩服她的决心和勇气. 她有梦想, 有目的而她下了许多功夫达到目的! 河莉秀就是人无论我们同不同意她的行为我们必须得承认她的成就吧! 河莉秀想要成为明星她通过她自己的努力克服别人的偏见而就成功了! 我不是告诉过你们我思绪混乱吗?

It was a lot of fun though, 王力宏 is an incredible talent and an exceptionally talented musician, too bad he's not a very good actor. Oh well 他还是我的偶像之一!
