Just found out how to access legally all CP podcasts (and more) plus text - and at no cost:

  • Go to confuciusinstitute.net
  • Click on ChinesePod
  • Select a podcast and listen
  • The text may be viewed also (simpl.+pinyin, Copy & Paste is possible!)
  • Download is possible, but you must sign in (free account) and enter the code first.
  • The mp3 contains also the Chinese text for viewing on the iPod.
  • The only drawback: no english translation

Thank you, Confucius Institute & ChinesePod!

PS. You may also learn characters...

http://www.confuciusinstitute.net/tags?tag=characters

or sing songs...

http://www.confuciusinstitute.net/tags?tag=songs

or learn idioms...

So a lot of stuff to explore - and all free! Have fun!

auntie68:

it seems that zhanglihua & cassielin are already put off: they both didn't post anything since the end of August.

The number of posts in the upper-Newbie podcasts seems to go down too.

user6836 says: "The pages often load very slow -- the vocab page has for me become mostly useless."

That's also my impression. The website is nice to look at, but functionality and speed are in many areas rather poor.

From own point of view, traditional character support is also VERY poor. But I asked for this so many times (it hinders me besides other things from subscribing).

I am really tired to post this again and again. Nobody seems to be interested in this, anyway.

http://chinesepod.com/terms says in a footnote:

*ChinesePod lessons 1-1127 only, MP3 lesson content is licensed under a Creative Commons 3.0 Unported license.

The last podcast has the number 979.

Seems that "1127" in the footnote needs to be corrected...

If GermanPod would be up and running I can help other learners with their problems in German. But if I have to pay for a subscription as a native speaker, I would not do that.

The same with Chinese people... So I expect that no native Chinese are able to help/answer in the conversation section of the higher podcasts.

It's a pity. I don't see a solution for this.

I would never call or speak about my wife (from Taiwan) as "我老婆".

It shows a lot of disrespect. It's about the same like in Germany, when some guys call her wife "meine Alte" (my old one).

I think no 太太 is very happy to hear 老婆. Maybe in the PRC it's different.

出租车/chu1 zu1 che1 is comprehensible to all across China.

Maybe it is comprehensible, but in Taiwan nobody says this and it is avoided by all means. In Taiwan everybody uses

計程車 jìchéngchē.

I just found this, and I realized Qing Wen is available for free account users - thanks! I always thought QW is a Premium service...
