Hi Grace, I asked a twelve year-old girl (friend's daughter in Jiangsu) how she was celebrating Mother's Day. She said that she was washing everybody's clothes and, in the afternoon, her mommy would take her to her grandmother's house to cook dinner. It sounds a lot like America; the greatest gift for a mother is a day of rest!

May 7, 2010 at 11:31 PM@bodawei, I think your sensitivity to the whole 宝贝不乖... phrase is absolutely fatuous; you'd probably regard me as a little Hitler. However, since the point of this (lesson) thread is to learn Chinese, and the phrase is obviously genuine and widely used, who cares what we think?
Regarding the debate as to its appropriateness, I would suggest moving the discussion to web sites such as this one (http://www.essentialbaby.com.au/forums/index.php?showforum=58).

There is a poem that includes the lines, "“清明时节雨纷纷，路上行人欲断魂....." Definitely has a melancholy tone to it, so I think Cassielin's advice holds.

May 11, 2010 at 11:47 AM過橋米線 has a cool story but, partially because it was so hyped, I was a bit disappointed when I finally tried it. However, all the other specialties more than made up for it. Does anyone know what that fried bread with Chili paste that they serve in Lijiang is called? I only know how to eat it.
