“她明明在家,卻不接電話。”
在这个句子，“卻”不是个连词吗？我知道按照词典，“卻”是个副词，但它的用途跟连词是差不多，对吗？

I was basically noting that, despite the rule re: time markers going in the middle of a separable verb, in fact the 了 particle very, very frequently appears afterwards. John did, in fact, allude to this. However, after I wrote my reply, I decided that it didn't add much to the debate; if you're looking for a good, simple guide, the rule that John and your text gave is sound. Complicating things too much risks losing the message. Therefore, I deleted the post.
Also, while I sympathize with simonpeterson's rant at linguists trying to shove an round (i.e. oriental) peg into a square (i.e. western) linguistic hole... ahh, I just don't care that much. Now, if he had brought up stative verbs...

July 31, 2010 at 4:49 AMI agree with others here re: the usefulness of this lesson. I've been saying, "我昨天见面他“ forever. However, I'm guessing from the lesson text that 了 can sometimes go after a "separable verb."

June 2, 2010 at 11:52 PMHi Shanghai_rocks, re: 怪不得 and 难怪 substituting for 废话，my internal translator always regarded "废话" more as the equivalent to "Bullshit!" in English, both in tone (i.e. mildly vulgar) and meaning.
I'll wait for a more authoritative opinion, but I'm not sure that 难怪 or 怪不得 are equivalents.

As always, thank you for taking the time to answer my question. Still that leaves me wondering whether or not the sentence, “她明明在家，卻她不接电话“，is also correct?
Perhaps I am trying to be too exacting; in English adverbs are a bit of a bastard child; anything that isn't clearly a noun, adjective, verb, preposition, etc. is classified as an adverb. I'm guessing it's the same in Chinese.
