I find women easier to understand than men, regardless of my gender. It's generally true that women speak more clearly, only because their voices are in a higher pitch than male voices.

It is good to have a male voice to copy, though, no matter how much I might prefer listening to the women :)

It's really uncommon, at least in America, to refer to people as foreigners. If I were to call folks at work "foreigners" I'd be sent in for sensitivity training : )

It's not that the word never gets used. There are a lot of pushes against immigration (see Arizona right now) but in "polite society" we don't refer to folks as "foreigners".

Also consider that it's impossible in America to tell just by looking at someone if they're foreign.

What bothers me...only a little...is when Chinese in America refer to white folks as laowai. I've said to some coworkers, "I'm not laowai, you're laowai!"

Of course, in America, many of the Chinese are actually American.

Agreed. I don't much care about having to click all over the place to find lessons but having the feeds disappear is really, really bad. I'm an Intermediate student, but I like to listen to Elementary (to make me feel smart) and UpperInt (which I kinda get). Heck, I even listen to the Advanced and Media on the theory that hearing clearly spoken Chinese can't hurt anything. My feed this week only has Intermediate. I've had to rejoin all the groups to restore my feed.

Once the CPod API becomes real I'm writing my own app to manage my CPod experience. I appreciate innovation, but not for innovation's sake.

It is typical and you haven't listened to an Audio Review for a while : )

These files ("The Fix") are kind of rough edited. Sometimes they sounds like the staff figured out a better English translation of the Chinese sentence and overdubbed. The Fix lessons usually sound a little unprofessional, but I'd rather have them that way than not have them at all!

Wǒ shàngyuè qù guò Lāsī Wéijiāsī cānjiā kāihuì. Tāmen jiào Lāsī Wéijiāsī lù "The Strip". Wǒ juéde "The Strip" hěn qíguài. Dōu jiǔdiàn shì jiǎde.

Zài "Bālí jiǔdiàn" lǐ yǒu tāmen jiànlì le hěnduō Fǎguó de dōngxī: shāngdiàn, dàolù, jièbiāo. Wǒ kān le yī tiáo lù jiù juéde wǒ zài Bùlǔsàiěr. Wǒ chàyì sǐ le!

Last month I went to Las Vegas to attend a conference. They call Las Vegas Boulevard "The Strip". I think that The Strip is very odd. All the hotels are fake.

Inside "Paris Hotel" they constructed many French things: shops, streets, landmarks. I saw one street and immediately thought I was in Brussels. I was astonished!

Hi Crystal! It's your most undisciplined student. Even though I have so little time to study Chinese it has been really helpful having you as a teacher. Thank you for being so incredibly patient with me.
