November 28, 2008 at 6:19 PMnot to beat a dead horse -- i've commented on this before -- but this lesson's pdf again translates things that are too basic for elementary (but, why) and leaves out words that are clearly more complex (neighbor)..
i now cpod is working on it. great!

November 27, 2008 at 6:31 PMfascinating things about sex! there's also a pretty good sex museum in paris btw.. interesting how waves of sexual liberation sweep through cultures (india, europe, even the u.s. in 1960s, haha) and then die down... 为什么? i guess "morality" can be a good political sell. or maybe repressed yang is a more productive economic force..
... can we do a podcast on taoism? the distinction between original texts and formal "religion", basic ideas, contemporary manifestations in china ... go lao tse!!

November 24, 2008 at 11:48 PMby weird you mean "colloquially inappropriate" rather than gramatically incorrect, right? so to a question "which kind do you like", an answer "i like every kind" would be weird if translated 我喜欢每个样子? it should be 每个样子我都喜欢?

November 21, 2008 at 7:34 PMthe expression "every" in the lesson is 每个。。。都 . can one drop dou1? it seems like an overkill. what function does it serve in addition to mei3ge?

November 17, 2008 at 7:51 PMpearltowerpete, thanks for your reaction! for me pdfs are important because i print them out -- and many users select lessons by topic, rather than timing (i.e. older lessons are as likely to be used as newer ones). looking forward to the updated pdfs!

November 14, 2008 at 7:28 PMguys, thanks for excellent work, but...
"a small token of kindly feelings" ?? sometimes, the translations for key vocab in pdfs are funny. i'd say "small gift" would be the less esoteric, actually usable version..
