December 29, 2009 at 3:47 PMChris--thanks. In one of my past lives, I was a copy editor and mistakes like that drive me crazy.

December 26, 2009 at 1:52 PMWhoa!
I see that explanation as a service so that I can understand the lesson better. We're all trying to help each other here and we all have different needs.
If the post didn't relate to something in the lesson, maybe, but only maybe it would be intrusive, but this post related to the lesson and I, for one, am glad for the explanation.

December 15, 2009 at 7:18 PMWhat is a silk-filled bei4zi/doona/duvet called? Or does beizi tell the whole story?

December 13, 2009 at 11:31 PMtage--I agree with you completely. I too would like a halfway sort of executive plan, or to have the executive plan customizable. Maybe executive plan memers could pay a fixed price and then choose facets of the plan that make the most sense for them. Each facet would have a value and so a person could choose the number of live lessons per week and that amount would be deducted from the retainer or deposit that each member pays at the beginning of each term or period.
For example, if one month of executive plan with 5 live lessons each week costs $200, then each lesson costs $10. So, if I want three lessons a week, I would pay $120 a month. (I don't vouch for my math, but I'm hoping this gets the idea across.)

November 11, 2009 at 1:35 AM Do you guys know that yves goulnik (goulniky on this site, I believe) has posted a copy of an early (by Western standards) edition of a dictionary of cursive Chinese. It's written in French, but the subject is specialized enough that most English and Romance language speakers should be able to understand it.http://goulnik.com/cursives/
He also maintains the News 新闻 group here. He's an incredible resource.

November 1, 2009 at 7:29 PMOK. I'm sorry to do this to everyone, but I've been sending email messages to the finance department and even to Ken Himself for well over a month and still haven't had my problem attended to. I have a credit (as in MONEY) burning a hole in my account, and I wanted to apply it to the Sept or Oct special offer for free guided when one re-upped. It's now November, the offers are over and I still haven't had anything done about this.
PLEASE. I know this is not the appropriate place to post this, but I'm trying top get someone's attention.
Sorry for the shouting.

September 18, 2009 at 8:17 PMRich--I don't want to turn this into a religious discussion. Just to say that I've never heard a Jew say what you said in that paragraph, and I've been a Jew for a very long time in a very many places and among a very great number of people.
What you said above sounds completely Christian to me. Clearly, our Jewish experiences have been very different.

September 18, 2009 at 2:01 AMFirst of all, why wouldn't some Jews prefer to remain in their homes in China instead of moving to Israel? (Not all Jews believe that all Jews must (or even prefer) to live in in Israel. We belong where we feel at home.
Second, we don't ask forgiveness of any divine entity. We set all our affairs right ourselves. My family traditions put all the responsibility on the human being. Forgiveness from God is a Christian trait. During the High Holidays, we have to pay off all debts, literal and figurative.

December 30, 2009 at 6:25 PMWhy is it offensive to the intermediate (and above) CPoddies who don't need Pinyin or translation...why is it so offensive to them to be inclusive so that everyone understands the conversations? If you already read the Hanzi, just ignore the pinyin and yi4wen2 (translation) and let the ellies into the conversation. As for annotating your posts with pinyin and yiwen, just think of it as practice for touch-typing in your Chinese input system. Or something.
Otherwise, the commentary just becomes another barrier to ellies who are trying to become intermediates.
