I thought what I was listening to was this one... and I clicked on the play button for it... maybe it was messed up? I only listened to it for a few seconds because it was mentioned that this lesson got "demoted". Yet this is really one i need to listen to... I found myself watching Monkey King with a Chinese friend tonight and while I only have read a summary about it, there was so much I didn't know and don't really understand. For what it's worth, thanks for all these great topics and you great work! (hope I'm not doing too much 拍马屁 here... ha ha) -Rich

April 16, 2007 at 3:00 PMMmmmm.... 鞋拔 Thanks Jenny... interesting how that works (what the heck does "horn" mean in shoehorn anyway... must have been originally half of a cow horn or something). Doubt I'll be needing to write 鞋拔 on my shopping list anytime soon (since I never owned one in my whole life), but that does help me remember this character. :)

Haven't looked up the character's individual meaning yet Speaking of which, and all these words for toilets and stuff, where is Connie which her list of vocabulary? Maybe she hasn't been doing it for a while [haven't been on in a few weeks and BAM there was V3 in my face] and I didn't notice, or is she not allowed to do that in the new version since you are probably going to add pages for that? I didn't see any of this kidn of extra vocab. Would be great to see supplimentary vocab at the top of the conversation... always helped get everyone on the same page [literally, heh] 小明 P.S. You guys really should of had a picture of a "squat pot" in the picture... I'm sure some learners haven't seen one... at least not many Americans, as they even take a picture of mine when they come visit... come on, be Chinese, ChinesePod!

April 16, 2007 at 11:31 AMI agree, another great lesson. I never knew the word for plunger, 马桶拔， before, and yes, man are they handy in China where alot of plumping pipes are narrower than wrapping paper rolls.

April 16, 2007 at 10:00 AMBazza, I'm sure I can find one on the web (well, if it's called Hokey-Pokey...I didn't teach my kindergarteners with coke last year, but we did like to poke), but no time now. I found stuff years ago like Old McDonald (I posted that in the animal lesson) and others. You're a good web serfer... go and find 'er. :)

April 17, 2007 at 4:47 PMI also like the term I just learned today, "里外不是人" (li3wai4bu2shi4ren2) in my Habitual Sayings class. I know this isn't the same, but actually when you have two parties, both of which you can't satisfy, right? Jenny, is this the same as "Between a rock and a hard place?" I said that to a friend, tring to describe it with "在石头和硬的地方中间" (a poor tanslation I guess) but when they figured it out, they said, no no, not the same as 里外不是人, yet I think it is. You know English better than my Tianjin friends... what do you say?
