October 22, 2007 at 11:51 AMI met a girl from Shanghai last weekend here in Edinburgh, and she had single eyelids, so I thought she actually looked more Japanese than Chinese for some reason... maybe hair style and complexion as well. I don't notice single eye lids with Chinese as much for some reason. I didn't get the triple eyelid joke Jenny made about John at the end (and it sounded like John didn't either). Triple eye lids means your even older than Jenny? What's that all about?

October 22, 2007 at 11:44 AM@ocanainn: huh... who says this is Jenny's family? But yeah, sounds very much NON-Chinese like to have such a big family in China. People are surprised in China when I say I only have one other sibling, 一个姐姐, they expect me to come from a family of 8 or something (and they imagine each person owns a few guns... but that's another topic)

October 22, 2007 at 11:39 AMSo funny, as today in the Chinese class at Edinburgh University, my classmates studied how to talk about how many people in their family. Oddly the book we use uses 口 as in 你家有几口人？This lesson does not. Of course both are okay, yet it introduces measure words too. For those of you who know the "口" measure word, it is only used before "人" when talking bout a family, not people in other situations. You can remember it by 口 as a noun meaning "mouth" and so you have "# of mouths to feed." 比如: 四口人 (four mouths to feed)

October 20, 2007 at 6:37 PMahhh.... thanks goulniky. I also forgot there was 通过 which seems to work the same as both of the others? Interesting... guess I will have to remember that the "wearing"穿 is more literal (as is putting on clothes) and the "experience“经 one is more general.

October 19, 2007 at 4:00 PMI still can't get used to having to pay 30-40元 for a beer at a bar, when I can get it for 2元 at the store...yeah yeah, you pay for the atmosphere. Still, paying the same we'd pay, or more, in the States when I know rent is at least 5 times cheaper and so is the pay wait staff and band (the same band for like months and months!!). Crazy. I hope after seeing the prices I have to pay here in Britain (actually, it's about the same here too!) I I'll not complain som much about it... but I doubt it.

October 19, 2007 at 3:57 PM我有一点儿晚把我的评论留下来，但是我今天早上才听了这个播客，真的好玩儿啊！Jenny说的都很可以，尤其是开始的时候我觉得有一点奇怪她最爱这个动物，哈哈。 我的问题： 经过 vs 穿过 我还不知道什么时候用经过、什么时候用穿过。最近我说了我怎么"pass through a city"，中国朋友说我已经说“穿过“可是这个课文里面说经过。我从来不能记住哪个是哪个，或者有没有区别。谢谢。 I still don't understand when to use 经过 and when to use 穿过. Recently I said how I "passed through a city", and my Chinese friend said I should say "穿过“, but it this text it said "经过.“ I can never remember which is which, or what the difference is. Thanks.
