I did a search on google for both 夜里比赛 and 晚上比赛, and it looks like the latter is actually used more, over 17 times more often.

I never heard 提款卡 before. As for the machine, I was always taught, and used when asking, "取款机", without the "自动", as a short form. I'm sure there are slightly different words in different areas, especially between Mainland and China.

But 嗯 can also be "yes" or 对 as well, right? I've always been confused, like typing with a friend online, and they will keep saying "嗯" "嗯" "嗯" when responding to what I say... at first I thought they were just doing the "um" meaning, and I kept saying soemthing like "well, are you going to answer?", to then being told 嗯 was their answer. I've thus tried to use "嗯" myself in conversation, but never feel comfortable with it, especially when I'm using it to mean "Yes"

September 18, 2009 at 9:51 PMI too will try to refrain from starting a religious debate/argument, and I merely was sharing my understanding and joy in the Jews I know, as they too have impacted my Christian faith which builds upon so much of these traditions and the relationship the Creator had with the Jewish nation.
If my comments are too "Christian", no appologies. I assume that is common in ones who take on how God fulfilled promises made to the Jewish nation, as I gleam much of my understanding of God's forgiveness, mercy and power from the Jewish scripture, yet see then the fulfillment of prophesies and the eye witness accounts as life-changing, so thus views of God are different, or how we can draw closer to him anyway. Yet all the same, I still very indepted to Israel and how its existance in this wonderful world has affected my life, so hold nothing against it. I'm even very much thankful for Hanukkah, its rememberance of the rededication of the temple in 2 BC, as that plays a huge role in God's use of this nation.
So, in that regards, and hopefully not being offensive, just explaning myself, I do also richly wish everyone a happy Rosh Hashanah...happy New Year!

As for Jews knowing too we are all a sinful race, I do have Jewish friends who believe this also, not just Christians, and they too turn to God for forgiveness. Doing so is very much a Jewish trait even before the Messiah came, as King David in both 2 Samual and the book of Psalms is well known for seeking God for forgiveness. This was not something Jesus introduced, but fulfilled in showing us the relationship with Creator. Sure, we all now seem seek different dogma/beliefs, what works for ourselves rather than actually is desired by 耶和华, but just as we may seek forgiveness from a person, asking for forgiveness from God is simply a matter of the heart which can draw us closer to him.

I'm not too familiar with that phrase 口翕得就口翕 myself, but sebire in a QingWen in July wrote this:
"babble, balderdash, blather, bunk, double-talk, gibberish, gobbledygook, hogwash, hooey, jabber, nonsense, poppycock, prating, rot*, rubbish*, tripe, twaddle."
which has the meaning also as 胡说 in Chinese

Just to be picky, there is a typo in the intro.... "news" not "new" in the last line.

October 31, 2009 at 9:02 PMJenny's mentioning of 牛轧 at the top of this discussion quickly reminded me how I loved fooling people when I had a party by buying spicy beef jerky (辣牛肉干 là niúròugān) which they for some odd reason package it in little pieces and in pretty candy wrappers. Love to see the face of people who grab it among the other candy, unwrap it and pop it in their mouth expecting something sweet. :)
Anyone else play such jokes, especially with Chinese-looking-candy food?
