I was trying to figure out how 重新 works too. Would it be okay to say that it serves like the English prefix "re-" except that it can be separated from the part that comes afterward. For example, 在中国重新为中国客户设计产品 I could awkwardly directly translate as re - ,for the Chinese customer, - design the product" Of course the natural translation would be "redesign the product for Chinese customers."

April 5, 2011 at 1:35 AMyeah, that kind of self-referential humor and parody might be a bit dense to penetrate if you are not from a culture which employs that kind of joking. I also hope nobody has been offended, and I also was leery that all of the posts here were "pulling my leg."
I thought Di Lu carried it off brilliantly, but I wonder if Chinese students had been presented with something like this as an English lesson whether they would see any humor in it.
I've heard that irony and sarcasm are typical uses of language where I am from (USA) that are not understood in many parts of the world. Anyone care to share insights on China?

Here's the description of the reader add-in from their web site:

You can also look up characters on web pages and in Word documents via the pasteboard, and can bring in text from other iPhone apps through the pasteboard as well."
