November 14, 2012 at 4:35 AMIs the difference between 帮 and 协助 merely one of formality? I ask because I've found that while 帮 can be translated as the English verb "help", it actually more commonly means something similar to the English preposition "for" as in "do something for me" rather than "help me do something". Does 协助 carry the meaning of the English "help" in that it implies both parties working together, or does it more closely resemble 帮 and function as "doing something in the place of another"?
