June 16, 2009 at 3:11 AMHi cinese,
Thanks for a few interesting questions.
The sentence ends 同不同意, which is short for 同意不同意. Certain verbs work this way--e.g. 喜不喜欢.
You can't say 一边点头,一边摇头because the two actions aren't occurring at the same exact time.

You can have an entire conversation with 嗯. I knew a guy who even used a long, nasal version of that sound to answer the phone (but only when it was his mistress calling).

Would that be the Robert Newman who played Butch Kid, or Sundance Cassidy? ;-)

Thank you for commenting. As changye explained, the word 搞 is not inherently bad or corrupt. We need to take it in context. If you say 他很喜欢乱搞男女关系, that's no good.
But for that matter, the extremely common English word "do" can have sexual connotations as well. As we are fond of saying here, context is king.

June 16, 2009 at 1:53 AMHi Tony,
Great to hear from you again. We're looking forward to taking your comments and questions.
Henan, huh? Lots of history there. I haven't explored it nearly as much as I'd like. A lot of great poets like Li Shangyin 李商隐 were from that area.

June 16, 2009 at 1:51 AMHi rj,
Problem solved. Thank you for pointing it out. The word for hedgehog is 刺猬 cìwei, which does look similar.
I am still in the process of fixing glitches in these older lessons. Not making any excuses, but the old annotation engine was very quirky. There have been some real howlers in here.
But of course we are dedicated to bringing you the best possible Chinese learning tools, so we are fixing them.

There was a sense that the topic was not practical enough for most poddies. But since it seems that there is genuine interest, I will mention it again.
