啊(升调,表示惊讶) shows surprise
噢, 哦(表示突然明白) shows that you suddenly understand
咦(表示奇怪) shows that you think something's weird
喂, 哎 (表示打招呼) a greeting

November 19, 2008 at 2:45 AMHi kimiik,
Your suggestion for a lesson on flavors is a good one. Of course, we could do lessons devoted to the taste of various tofus, meats, chocolates, etc.
In the meantime, here is a lesson from the archives, also about wine.

November 19, 2008 at 2:36 AMHi stanimal,
淋浴 refers only to showering, whereas 洗澡 can refer to either a shower or a bath (泡澡)。 Ambiguity makes life interesting, huh ;-)
P.S. If you want to take a hot shower, you 洗个热水澡.

Chinese definitely complain openly in this way! Jiaojie adds that people in her hometown would not use so many phrases like 噢哟-- but they are very popular in Shanghai.
那就是一种语言习惯吧。

Hi Joachim,
I'm not sure about the tritium issue. But as a fellow futurist/environmentalist, I like your idea for a lesson on hydrogen cars. Duly noted.

For some reason that picture made me sick to my stomach!
The little particles (语气词 yu3qi4ci2) will make your Chinese even more authentic. There are a lot of them.

在中国很多地方都有类似的服务。尤其是比较高档的公寓。但一般的楼房,像我自己住的,没有。
听说日本和台湾分垃圾很普及,不分甚至分错了要罚款。但我在台湾的时候没特别留意到这点。在大陆,不用自己分,一起乱放就可以,都会有人把瓶子,纸板,等找出来。
比较大的家电会有破烂车来回收。几乎每天早上都能听到他们录音广播:“回收:彩电,冰箱,空调,电脑,洗衣机。”
