Sorry for the late reply... (I do like the tab with 'replies to me'...)

Yes, 多少 does refer to numbers, and this is my point. A password is not a number, even if it happens to be all numerals. Those numerals don't refer to a quantity... their meaning is the same as any other password. (The crow flies west at midnight.) So there is no "much" or "little" so speak of.

But I know it is just a habit of speech and nothing to get upset about.

Once I hadn't eaten enough and was feeling sick so I asked a young guy for his seat (不好意思,我不舒服...) I felt really bad about it but he jumped out of his seat. It could have something to do with the truly horrific whiter shade of pale I can turn, but it was really nice nonetheless.

Actually, 多少 doesn't make much sense to me anyway, since the numbers aren't a quantity. So using it for alpha-numeric codes is just as logical.

Whenever I run across the "girl, you got to train your man" attitude I answer back, "girl, that his momma's job, not mine."

I dunno, in the spectrum of storytelling thru song I would equate the ballad with the short story as opposed to the epic tales of opera. But that is just a feeling, not a researched history of the word.

I had a student that told me the same. (He wasn't adamant about it.) He did provide the detail that there was a war and 黄帝 won, while 蚩尤 lost. He said there is a theory that the Native Americans descended from 蚩尤's people, who had to flee China. I do remember learning in 7th grade that there was a theory that Native Americans came from China via an ice bridge in the Bering Strait. I've seen similar theories presented in history programs in the US. So long story short I think the story is at least plausible. Of course everything on the subject is a theory.

Definitely in favor of Vikings.

There are two words for the number two. When you are counting you say 二 èr, but most other times, like when referring to two of something, you say 两 liǎng. If it is part of another number, say 12, it is 二 èr... 十二 shíèr. Just to keep you on your toes.

How common would it be to ask "how are you?" What I get from this is that the correct way to say it is 你好吗, but that it is not nearly as common to say in China as it is in English speaking countries.
