Very interesting, although as a scientific ceramist I should probably recommend something with a bit more functionality. This place in Nikaho Japan made me smile

Dunno whether this is correct as it's a phrase I never use (even in English) - I'm averse to glazed (ho ho) looks of boredom and tumbleweed blowing past my feet!
Ceramic Artist meets ceramic scientist how's that for yin and yang?
Enjoyed the blog btw some jolly fine ceramics there!

I've learned a stack of stuff from the lesson discussions (admittedly not all of it language related) and had fun in the process. I actually feel that the "drivel", if we insist on using this term, can in many cases assist by providing a memory aid or context setting for the lesson. My recollections of grammar and vocabulary points are often intertwined with memories of some of the more amusing discussion posts for a given lesson.
I may be wrong, but I'm filling up my water bottle in preparation for some grueling hikes through the arid and humorless landscape that I fear the discussion boards will turn into.

June 24, 2009 at 9:58 PMFamous is given as yǒu míng 有名 here but I've seen zhī míng 知名 and zhù míng 著名 offered as alternatives in my dictionary. Does anyone have any guidance on useage of these variants, or can someone point me to a relevant lesson or even better a Qing Wen?

My (limited) understanding of these matters in the UK would be that a 顾问 (gù wèn - consultant) does the same job as the 经济学家 (jīng jì xué jiā - economist) but is paid more :) Count yourself lucky!
BTW I don't want to be accused of starting a "drivel thread" on the pros and cons of consultants!
