This is great, thank you.

I've actually been learning characters for a while (it started with menus in 茶餐厅, and subway station names, but has grown well beyond that).

but I definitely feel this crossroads.

I'm at a stage where I can listen to my chinese friends talking, and have an idea what they're saying, and express myself fairly well (using english words to fill gaps in my vocabulary)

So what is my next goal?

I think mostly I just want a better vocabulary set.

Perhaps I should concentrate on that.

To chip in on the flossing part. My dentist always told me that I should wrap the floss around my fingers. Figures it hurts and actually I found a way better solution: make a ring of floss by knoting two simple knots (a single knot will open due to the slippery nature of floss), span the ring by putting your two hands in it and stretch. Floss as normal: no floss-in-finger-cuts. Hope that is useful for somebody who hated flossing for the same reason

I've had a look at a few jobs on 51jobs, but none state any salaries.

Is that a Chinese thing?

(in the UK recruiters always overstate the salary)

I read Jenny's post about this (http://jennyzhu.com/2011/09/02/whats-in-a-chinese-name)

I like what she says about 1 character names.

我叫《马泰》。我是个《maverick》。

I must say I found the temple to be a bit too pristine.

A bit disneyland, i dare say.

Maybe you can explain masine.

I assume it's just the context is obviously in the past?

I'm not familiar with "来着" (lái zhe).

What does it mean?

In maths we'd normally say "non-empty".

But, yeah.

I've worked with non-english speaking developers.

Had to resort to demonstration rather than explanation,

As I don't know any vocabulary.

“在这个scope那个variable不defined了”

But, it would be strange to have a lesson on "recursion" and "variable svope"

I overlooked the explanation (at 10:00 in).

"Yao4 *do something* le"

"something is about to happen"

When she says我要回家了(wǒyàohuíjiāle) is she being rude?

It's like "I wasn't going home... but now I am"?

Or just an emphasis?
