哪里 (nali) is a question word itself, like 'Where'. Not all questions need a 'ma' at the end.
For example 'How' and 'When' (zěnmeyàng) questions tend to have no 'ma'. Same for 'How much' (duōshǎo), 哪儿 (nǎr - another 'where') as Amber points out above and so on...
'Ma' can change a statement of 'fact' into a question.
For a really unnatural English version of 'Ma' you could use ", no?".
You eat Chicken, no? <- here 'ma' works
Where do you come from, no? <- brain melts here...

Is zai-jianna something I can actually use? I fully intend on saying it regardless, but I would like to know if I am merely making a nonsense.
Random question, but do foreigners speaking Chinese have certain traits? Maybe making English sounds whilst listening (uhuh, u-huuhh...), or adding sounds to the ends of words?
