Actually I just realised that the 地 was a part of 田地.. feel a bit silly now :)

我叫潘光明。 Not much confusion there for me.. (however, is there some fixed expression for 光明 perhaps?) but I do use the 地的 expression a lot when I am trying to explain myself and I might not be getting the tone of a character correct. I will repeat the character and then use another more obvious word to describe the character using 地的..maybe like.. 光明的明 or 朋友的友.. is it ok to drop the 地?I think I don't normally use the 地 that often..

Coincidentally, I have a Taiwanese friend who's name is Hsin-Tien (Xin Tian).. very similar to yours Fiona :)

Have fun with it if you can.. it's a great learning experience to practise your Chinese. They start at 100 for a t-shirt usually.. feign offence and offer 5. Wait for the reaction of disbelief then smile or laugh.. now prompt them to offer a more reasonable price and keep staying below 20.. the real price of most t-shirts is around 20 to 25.. have fun.. find the real price.. and if necessary, move to a new store with the same products and buy at the now known price.

你给我, 便宜一点儿吧。
Ni gei wo, pianyi yidian'r ba.
Come on, you can give me a better price.

Why "tiantian" and not "meitian"? or other words for "always" for that matter?

In the sentence: 她还放了一个又响又臭的屁 there's a lot of characters (adjectives, qualifiers etc) between 放 and 屁.. how do you get your head around connecting them? Is there some pattern in there that is standard?

Thanks for the lesson.. it's not just the keywords that are useful but the conversation as well.

In the dialog you have 半小时 rather than 半个小时.. which is the most common usage? I have always used 半个小时. Is this usage (in the dialog) done because it is part of a complex sentence?
