There's a "festival" (I guess you could call it a festival.. not sure how to really define the difference between festival and just event on the calendar) on 4th May that essentially translates as "young people's day".. that's my birthday, so I am always the brunt of jokes about my age. :)

Hehe.. not like there is a lot of sun penetration in some places anyway. :) I remember my first day "ever" in Shanghai and the sun was this pale, orange smudge in the sky. Visibility was about 100 to 200 metres through the thick air pollution. I quite liked it at first, as it was so surreal and different but that quickly wore off and become anxiety as I thought that it was going to be like that every day!! Luckily that was the worst air pollution I've witnessed in the last 2 trips... far beyond the norms. Certainly wouldn't need sun protection on that day.. but would definitely need some ibuprofen for the headache you get from the pollution though. :)

Hrmm.. if that is the case, I wouldn't mind know what the pattern is.. I wonder if it is the tried and true 看起来?

Ahh right.. fair enough. To be honest, I've had my new computer for about 6 months now and I've made do without the Chinese Reader for that whole time, didn't install it till about a week ago.. I use it more for the "Look Up" dictionary than I do for the popup Chinese.. and I do agree that they can actually allow you to "cheat" so much that you don't learn anything. Basically if you use it to read the whole page, then you won't learn anything other than how to string constructions together quickly. If you just use it to quickly translate a new word or new chunk, rather than reaching for the dictionary.

Like I said... used sparingly, they can be quite useful. :)
