Posted on: How Cold Is It in Winter?
January 04, 2017, 04:20 AM

Hi Learn, I noticed a question mark after you wrote "cold wave" so I hope the following might be helpful:

In English, we can say "heat wave" but never "cold wave" -- strange, huh?  But we can say "cold snap" or "cold spell".  And I don't know any other way to express a prolonged period of extreme heat except to say "heat wave".

Cheers,

兰青

My Chinese teacher told me that many, many men in China wear green hats every day -- members of the army!

In Canada (and maybe the U.S?) telephone directories are both yellow pages (for businesses and other services) and white pages (for residential numbers).

Am I the only one having a problem with the reordering sentences in the exercises?  I have reloaded the page several times, but the sentences are already in the correct order.

Just found this wonderful lesson on Chicago where I plan to go next year.  I always enjoy reading the comments, but this time I'm a bit shocked that no CPOD staff has replied to questions (valid ones, I think) posted.  What's going on?

What about 山楂 (hawthorn berry)?  My Chinese herbalist in Vancouver told me it is a traditional remedy to lower high cholesterol.
