April 23, 2012 at 12:46 AMYou can use 约 to mean "have an appointment", e.g. 我约了朋友、我约了看医生、我约了客户。
"To make an appointment" is 我想预约, but 预约is only used in contexts where a commercial transaction will take place, e.g. make a restaurant reservation or doctor's appointment. For other purposes such as to make an appointment to see a client, use 约，我想约个时间。
