"Sandal" is 凉鞋/liángxié. It is in the vocabulary list now. We call thongs/flip flops 夹脚拖鞋/jia1jiao3 tuo1xie2.

这个对话很好地体现了在中国，很多孩子大学的专业都是父母选的。美国、欧洲的情况应该很不一样吧。

I get way more 垃圾短信/lājīduǎnxìn/sms spams than 垃圾邮件/lájīyóujiàn/junk mail.

咱们 /zánmen is used more in Northern China. We try to balance and show both the Northern and Southern speech habits. Another example is 儿话音(the "er" sound), you will notice it in some lessons but not others.

I happen to see an interview with the kungfu movie star Jet Li yesterday, who has dedicated himself to his charity foundation in the past few years. When asked about the difficulties NGO's face in China, he said nothing would get done if he focused on those and that NGO's were badly needed precisely for those reasons.
