May 12, 2008 at 1:15 AMThe Chicago name, "Windy City" is probably derived from a term for bragging or talking big. It would be similar to "blowhard", and as Ken says, an interesting bit of lexis. Although Chicago weather is harsh, it's actually not more windy than a lot of places.

May 4, 2008 at 4:39 PMAny theory on the "reason" for counting words? It seems strange that a language that does without much inflection has them. My wife suggests that it's because of all the homonyms, a counting word helps sort out the meaning of the noun.

For non physical activity, would one say something like kan4shu1 bu ke3yi3?
