Cucumbers in substitute for lettuce, maybe...that layer of crisp vegetable....

It's interesting that it's still called "lunch meat" even though it's not used for lunch.   We in the us call it lunch meat because it's used in sandwiches and sandwiches are lunch fare.

麻烦你 seems a natural way to express "excuse me, sorry" to this english speaker.

Why "chi1 how3 le" and not "wan2 le"?  Is it special for food and drink?

Actually, this lesson introduced an entirely new pattern that I wish Jenny and Ken had discussed in some detail, that is, "zai4 (da da da) shi2 jian1" to say "during", or by appending "wei" making it "outside of".  I don't think I've ever seen this before.

Could we also say, "zai4 San1yue4", for "during the month of March"?

Jenny, interesting on the use of 吧 ba1 as a place to lounge, because we already had a noun for such a place: "lounge".  In fact, back in the sixties "lounge" was used in the states as a classy name for a bar!

What's the difference between 锅贴 (guōtiē) and 饺子(jiǎozi)?  Aren't they the same thing, that is, meat filled dumplings that are pan - fried?

One more point...some of us aren't very good with vegetables, or cuts of meat, or types of fish, or articles of clothing.  When you make these videos, please remember some of us have to get a good look at something before recognizing it as, say, an onion.

My suggestion for the video and future videos:  Although I have never heard that cover of XTC's "Making Plans for Nigel" and appreciated it, in this case I would have included ambient noise to let me acclimate myself to the somewhat strange environment of the market.  As long as it is cut out for the vocabulary.  One of the problems with the production of the lesson podcasts is TOO MUCH ambient noise making it difficult to hear the lesson.

City's bad habits surveyed

As part of the preparations for the Shanghai World Expo, the municipal government has marked the 600 day countdown by publishing a report on "uncivilized behavior" among locals. The report is based on an online survey in which over 5,000 Shanghai citizens were polled on what kind of behavior they consider annoying or rude.

Smoking in public places made it to number one on the list of "most disgusting
