Great one, Jen. Didn't realise we needed to practice our ballroom pivots to learn this language!

December 19, 2010 at 7:52 AMVery subtle difference, I think, but IMHO your example compared to the lines used in the lesson would be used in different contexts. Eg. your example can stand alone, but examples in the lesson can't. If someone said something like:
A: 这手表很贵啊!
we'd respond more appropriately with B to focus on the link back to A's statement
B: 这个贵是很贵,可是我还是要买。
If we responded with the line you gave, it would technically be correct, but the context-based link-back is much weaker.

The last example, 外面正下着雨呢, sounds very much like the 正 can also be dropped. 外面下着雨呢 sounds right to me and still have the same emphasis. Am I wrong?
If not, any "rules" for why only the last example sounds the same without the 正 and 在,but not the others?

December 9, 2010 at 5:37 PMphil2010, ever thought of taking a different tack? I have seen a few of your posts on this matter at various places, and at the moment from what I've seen, your points amount to 1) "I want Jenny back", 2) "I want new hosts", and 3) "I won't stop flooding every forum I can find until I get what I want". Hardly compelling arguments, wouldn't you say?
Perhaps some well-mapped out reasoning as to why pedagogically it is better to have different hosts? Perhaps some arguments appealing to other cpod users so they support you in your push?
Also, have you considered that data is not supporting your threat? I suspect cpod staff hasn't been falling over themselves getting you changes because their download data says their hosts are doing fine. If that's the case, good luck with your strategy. Perhaps if you yourself switch off a few downloads and cpod staff sees that, they may actually believe your threat.
Not meaning to be provocative... just suggesting some changes to help you get what you want.
