It *may* be never needed, but if it is needed it is might become a lifesaver. The Doc probably has more to say about that subject. There simply is no line to draw.

You are definately the beacon of this community. There just is no need for you to tell us long stories in the DA to prove that.

November 23, 2007 at 11:51 AMDoc, that term I coined myself :P I use it to address simple & strong dishes as loved by traditional rural population. E.g. with heavy use of cabbage, sausages, meat, mashed potatoes, mustard etc. The opposite of fancy (excluding fast food). Getting hungry again.

November 23, 2007 at 9:36 AMActually I detested 土豆泥 for a huge part of my live - for the very reason Mike gave above. When I turned 30 I suddenly started loving it. Actually I miraculously started to appreciate pretty much all kinds of food at that age - including tofu and jellyfish. The expression "potato mud" sounds has positive earthy connotations for me. I love 农民饭 (maybe it is my genes...). I had nothing for breakfast today. 饿死了。 我的眼都绿了。

Especially as I have just entered another one of those dangerous "neverwillgetthere notenoughtimeanyway somuchotherimportantotherstufftodo" depression phases with my Chinese learning. Next thing you need to dig up if you want to pull us up from those motivation pits: Find a CPod user speaking a fluent Mandarin who started learning Chinese in his mid-30th, who has not lived in China for longer periods of time, has a stressful job + to care for a family, and and who is not a language geek. :(
