January 25, 2008 at 9:21 AMJenny, it was great. One day (after the conference) I was lying in a hammock under palm trees by the sea for a nap and thought: "It is suddenly getting really cold!". But of course not so cold that I needed to wear a T-shirt. Can you say: 舒服死了? :)

January 21, 2008 at 8:07 AMIt is always a pleasure listening to the QWs. Besides feeding us calorie-rich grammar points the QWs provide us with a steadily increasing dose of Clay/Amber-energy. Unlike what was told in the dialogue the 不得了 was also a marvel (I am currently trying to catch up with about 2 weeks of lessons so I heard those in a row). Lessons covering 又。。又 and the releated 既...又: 又。。又 http://chinesepod.com/lessons/finding-a-supermarket/ 既...又 and 既...又 vs. 又...又 http://chinesepod.com/lessons/beauty-pageant-for-bloggers/ 既。。。又 http://chinesepod.com/lessons/going-to-the-gym/ http://chinesepod.com/lessons/views-on-the-news/ http://chinesepod.com/lessons/shanghai-expo/

January 6, 2008 at 8:12 PMGreetings to everybody from Hawaii! A 24 degrees Celcsion increase in temperature compared to Cologne. Not much time to practice Chinese here (this would be a good place to learn some Japanese, though). Don't celebrate too early: I will be back on the 16th.... ;)
Posted on: Tone Rule: Two Third Tones
January 3, 2008 at 5:25 PMxiaohu, Amber, Interesting point indeed! After some back and forth with my wife we came to the preliminary conclusion that the tone changes are not following a stable rule but are chosen according to emphasis: *Wo3* xiang2zhao2ni3 wo2xiang2zhao2*ni3* wo2xiang3zhao2ni3 Only the zhao does not want to turn to a third. Disclaimer: Do not trust this yet. In the end the discussion became totally confusing for both of us. :)

January 28, 2008 at 8:38 AMmarcelbdt, makes sense now! Thanks a lot! The beauty of Chinese - total absense of white space and not even the shadow of a comma where it would be really needed...
