March 6, 2008 at 12:13 AMHere is a Chinese version of the APOD: http://www.astron.sh.cn/ You find interesting vocab and even characters there, e.g. 昴 (mǎo) for the Pleiades (in the character frequency I use it got No. 5682).

March 4, 2008 at 10:34 AMSteve, I communicated with a webcam for 4 weeks (Skype). It is fun, although the quality is not particularly well and sound quality goes down even further. My son always ordered me to show him his toy pets - one after another. And then came the toy trains. And then at some point I usually lost patience ;) Only in China: Just witnessed that you can use the intercom of a large apartment building as a substitute-phone. An old lady chatted that way for half an hour. Culture or technology? Or both? The reason this Beijing building is so unbelievable overheated (close to 30 degrees Celsisus) is supposedly because it is close to the geothermal plant for the community heating - I was told that without overheating in the center the buildings further away would not get any warmth...

March 4, 2008 at 7:41 AMclay, although I'm not Gang: I would love to see a string of QWs with an overarching topic "complements" which introduces and compares all the different 上去, 起来,到来, 拿去, etc. etc.

March 3, 2008 at 10:33 AMAmber, it is all for educational purposes. Clay's didactic concept seems pretty sound to me. :P

March 3, 2008 at 10:15 AMIf you do not increase production speed you will have reached QW no.1806 by that time. Still far from 3000. So either speed up or continue for a few years more. Besides: We need a video version of QW.

March 3, 2008 at 7:38 AMCool. Judging from the voices this is at least High School, so the math lesson will be on infinitesimal calculus rather than boring plus-minus....

March 1, 2008 at 8:46 AMaimeixu, ther is no given schedule for the publication of new lessons. One level is not coming twice in a row, though, and neither is a sequence of two (Intermediate | Upper Intermediate) or (Advanced | Media). As you are new you probably still have lots of material to work through (139 Intermediate, 82 Upper Intermediate, 113 Advanced, 50 Media). The lessons are independent of each other grammar and vocab wise.

March 6, 2008 at 3:00 PMtexastochina, not only are guesses strictly forbidden, they are treated as an even more severe crime if they come from students who did not do their CPod homework: http://chinesepod.com/lessons/godzilla-in-shanghai/ :P
