Is the 的 in 租的骆驼 necessary?I would understand it if it was 他们当时就是问我租骆驼的...
I also have some trouble parsing this specimen:
可是只要一天没找到爸爸，我就不死心
The given translation is "But I'll never give up until I've found my dad" but the words only lead me to an obscure "But it only needs one day that I don't find my father then I won't give up"...

上千块 is translated with "more than 1000 RMB". The price of the bed, however, is only 999. So is 上千块 rather something like "reaches 1000" or indeed "more than 1000" (and thereby refering to other beds)?
