Important QW! That has been one of the eternal questions that came up again and again - since day one.

Question: Besides being more formal, is the usage of 同 and 与 identical to 和 - and are those two interchangeable?

When my older son was about 2 years old, I had to listen to that kid's song with the somewhat alienating lyrics about that beating father all day long - for months!

打起屁股噼,噼,噼噼噼噼
爸爸爸爸,爸爸爸爸;
好爸爸,好爸爸,我有一个好爸爸

哈哈! I like that song. Maybe they can compose more CPod-songs? What about 不是白垩纪

Or maybe one song per vocab entry - think about the mnemonic potential!

;)

RJ,
personally, it sometimes helped me to get the gist of what is being said, especially when the rest of the table 以为ed that I was still in the 你好 stage (however, those were no hard-core business meetings).

Did I get that right? The bottom line is money? Wow, that line is indeed very low.

usr260809, tvan,

are you sure it isn't the other way round?

CeDict also lists 乾淨 as the traditional form of 干净 (with the 三点水-净). 凈 however, is explained to be a "variant of 淨". This is consistent with the entries in MDGB and NCIKU.

Confusing stuff.

I hope the guy in the Chinese-German translation bureau we always go to listens to the show. He is one of the few translators who is officially accepted by the city administration. Whenever we need to hand in some kind of official Chinese document (e.g. each year when doing our taxes) we go there.

He is a nice guy, but he always translates the profession of my (now retired) mother in law with

Restaurant manager

In the original document this reads

酒店经理

John, bababardwan, shenyajin, xio,

Thanks for the lesson!

I already played the dialogue for my son and he started elaborating on the mentioned dinosaurs in German. Afterwards he got out his stack of (German and Chinese) dinosaur books and refused to go to kindergarten (took some effort to drag him there today)...
